Fix the bins

April 8, 2022 Martin J Keatings Comments off Election

We have all experienced continuing failures with bin collections of late, for which the council keeps giving an excuse of staffing issues due to COVID.

However, the pandemic has been raging for two years now, and councils have had more than enough time to properly plan for disruption during COVID surges, or when COVID is ticking along at normal rates.

Without greater clarity on what is needed, whether it be more resources or greater funding, disruption will continue and that’s simply not acceptable.

One of my first actions, if elected in May, will be to call on the council to provide solid empirical evidence on exactly where and why disruption is occurring, and from there, to consult with other councillors on how to build a solid plan on how to build in a more flexible approach to handling these issues.
